DescriptionTourists gathered around the Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan, Egypt, which was carved directly from the granite bedrock but abandoned after cracks appeared in the stone. Had it been completed, it would have stood about 42 metres tall and weighed roughly 1,168 tons, making it the largest ancient Egyptian obelisk ever attempted.
DescriptionA view along Avenida Corrientes looking towards the Obelisco de Buenos Aires in the distance. The Obelisk was inaugurated in 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the first founding of Buenos Aires by Spanish conquistador Pedro de Mendoza in 1536.
